TAKE ACTION: Help Ensure New York’s

Horse-Slaughter Law Is Fully Enforced

Twenty-five horses were spared from slaughter when New York State Police intercepted their transport through St. Lawrence County. The driver has been charged under New York Agriculture and Markets Law §385, but questions remain about who owned the horses, arranged the shipment, and directed their transport. The Times Union reported on the interception and pending charge.

HORSEPWR.ORG is asking concerned members of the public to respectfully contact the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office and request:

  • A complete and impartial investigation of the shipment;

  • Full prosecution of the pending case, based upon the evidence and applicable law;

  • A thorough examination of every person or business involved in owning, arranging, directing, or facilitating the shipment; and

  • Appropriate charges against any additional parties whose conduct is found to have violated New York law.

Stopping the truck saved these 25 horses. Thorough enforcement can help ensure that the law reaches everyone legally responsible, not only the person behind the wheel.

Please keep all communications respectful and focused on the facts. Do not make threats, personal attacks, or assumptions of guilt. Ask prosecutors to follow the evidence wherever it leads and apply the law fully and fairly.

I am respectfully requesting a complete and impartial investigation into the September 2 shipment of 25 slaughter-bound horses intercepted in St. Lawrence County. Please fully pursue the pending case and examine the roles of every person or business involved in owning, arranging, directing, or facilitating this shipment. If the evidence establishes that additional parties violated New York Agriculture and Markets Law §385 or any other applicable law, I respectfully ask that appropriate charges be brought. New York’s protections for horses are meaningful only when they are fully and consistently enforced.

Please speak up for these horses—and for every horse still at risk of entering the slaughter pipeline.
